Video conferences, calls and chat apps have been crucial to business operations for many years. The last two have just accelerated a growing trend but in a way that no one really envisaged.
Here at Petrolink we quickly recognized the shift to remote work and the need for a new breed of collaboration apps. We created PetroVue Impact a tool that unites wellsite data with team conversations all within the same view.
18 months on since launch let’s look at how our global client base is using it.
Where collaboration happens
The oil and gas industry has come a long way and gone are the days when the regional teams operated in isolation. Now we see clients routinely sharing best practices, torque and drag models, BHA compositions and more across their global asset teams. Their demands go way beyond distributing a report once a day or at the end of a well. Decisions such as geo-steering to land in the pay-zone rely on having seamless communication between onshore and offshore workers.
Effective communication between people in an organization is key to success. The ability to ask questions and share essential information is vital for effective collaboration between the members of the same team, but also between different teams. PetroVue Impact allows our customers who use the PetroVue system to operate more effectively by allowing you to communicate easily, armed with the relevant information you care about.
Impact brings your operation a chat system that is truly integrated with your real-time data. This means you can spend less time searching for data and more time focused on making key decisions.
Drilling engineers – can discuss a well-report and real-time events such as pore pressure increases.
Geologists – can hold meetings to discuss correlating wellbores.
Drillers – hold conversations including tool-box talks with the wider rig crew.
We elected to build the platform on the open-source Mattermost ecosystem. It has over 4,000 contributors so we see a continual stream of updates that we can select and bring to our clients.
Data is the lifeblood of oil and gas operators everywhere. Their most prized asset privacy and security are of paramount importance. IT departments need to make careful decisions on where they store internal company conversations that often contain sensitive information. Their limits of the public cloud can at times be a bottleneck to productivity. In an era of increased threats security cannot be compromised. That is why Impact can be deployed on-prem in an internal server meaning you can keep complete control of the data and resources. The system comes with granular permission control as standard to ensure only credentialled staff can join conversations and view chat history.
Stay in the loop
Sometimes sharing an image or a daily report is not enough. When a quick decision is needed often only voice or video will do. Impact ships with both these functions meaning that messages are always clear. On the road? A dedicated mobile app means not even away from your desk you are never out of the loop. This means drilling optimization can continue to drive overall operational efficiency reducing non-productive time.
Impact is now the go-to for wellsite collaboration. Our clients are seeing the benefits on location at the rig site and back in the office. The features and functionality of Impact emphasize what we stand for providing tools that help our customers stay at the forefront of their operations and maximize efficiency.
