Petrolink utilizes a number of applications to support our real-time operations.

PowerCollect is a set of applications that allows for the transformation of different wellsite data formats to WITSML.

WITSML 1.3.1 allows for the following objects:

  • Trajectory Object
  • Log Object
  • Mudlog Object
  • OpsReport Object

WITSML 1.4.1.1 allows for the following objects:

  • Trajectory Object
  • Log Object
  • Mudlog Object
  • OpsReport, Drilling Report Object
  • Attachment WITSML Object

The new ‘Attachment Object’ allows for binary data files to be stored.

PowerSwitch is the inter-store data synchronization tool that allows data transport between WITSML stores. It supports all vendor extensions and is capable of handling the non-standard implementations.

Calculation Engine is a real-time WITSML client application which accesses a WITSML store, performs advanced calculations on the data and then stores the results back in the WITSML store for use by any WITSML client.

This powerful engine enables Petrolink to generate complex calculated curves from client data with both linear and non-linear equations. Calculation Engine does all of this ‘on-the-fly’, against live data and constantly updates the relevant calculated curves in real-time.

Examples of Linear Equations:

  • MSE – Mechanical Specific Energy
  • Water saturation
  • Interpolation (Fitting data to a fixed index)
  • Index re-calculation
  • Rig activity calculation from drilling parameters.

Examples of non-linear equations:

  • FFT – Fast Fourier Transforms
  • Moving window (rolling formulas that take a range of data for input)
  • Automated spike reduction
  • Predictive – using past values to predict future events (look ahead), which rolls forward as prediction is overwritten by actual measurements.

Calculation engine is fully extensible, with the ability to add new modules to cater to any specific client needs. Calculations can be entered either as mathematical formulas for standard equations or as advanced ‘script blocks’ of code where complex processing is required.

Built-in formula and syntax checkers allow advanced users to easily create new formulas as required.

Explorer File Synchronization Tool

PowerSync allows the synchronization of data that has been uploaded to the Petrolink Data Distribution Databases with standard Explorer Folders.

In this way, data that has been uploaded to the Petrolink System from the remote location or wellsite can be automatically downloaded to the Corporate Shared Drive on the Network.

Data of a particular report type, such as a daily drilling report, that has been uploaded to a specific well will be copied to the specific folder on the Corporate Shared Drive, so this does not have to be done manually by the User.

In addition, it is possible to use the Petrolink Databases to synchronize between corporate shared drives in different locations and countries in a completely secure way over the Internet.

Remote users who store data on their desktops or laptops are also able to synchronize their Explorer File folder structures using the Petrolink PowerSync Service.
