In this edition of Petrolink People, we meet Matthew Dee – Operations Technologist and Field Engineer. Matt works in our Houston office.
How long have you worked at Petrolink?
I joined Petrolink in 2018.
What got you started in the Petrolink Operations team?
I had just moved to Texas from California; I knew I wanted an adventurous job and Petrolink looked like the perfect opportunity. I wanted to be in operations so that I could travel to rigs. It was always an experience I had wanted and am grateful that I was allowed to pursue it.
What does a typical day look like?
Typically, I assist with support calls and chats as well as other operations projects and issues as they arise. I also am taking a more active role in coordinating rig setups.
How has your workflow changed since working from home?
Working from home has thankfully not changed the usual workflow too much. As I work with data and ensure that there are no outages, the workflow has remained the same. I have a lot more Teams meetings however, that is for sure!
What has been the most challenging aspect of the last two years?
I would say dealing with rig trips during this pandemic has been the most challenging. Whether international or local, having to deal with quarantine restrictions has complicated many aspects of a rig trip that relies so heavily on multiple pieces from many different companies coming together. De-manning a rig due to COVID was an interesting experience to say the least.
What opportunities do you see in the year ahead?
I hope to help Petrolink with more field setup coordination and deployments. I am having such fun traveling around South America with new field deployments that I hope that continues. I am thankful to have stayed remarkably busy during this pandemic and it just reflects well on Petrolink as a whole and the dedicated folks who work here tirelessly searching and gaining new opportunities.
What are the most enjoyable aspects of working here?
I would have to say the international rig trips. Although they can be stressful, in the end, it is all worth it when you know that the Petrolink rig machine is up and running and getting the necessary data from the data providers. I rely heavily on the Kochi and Jakarta teams who are always there for me for assistance. I also enjoy the small company feel as well, I know everyone in the Houston company well and have come to know and befriend many other Petrolink co-workers in other offices around the world.
